The Challenge

In order to improve member experience, People’s Choice is transforming its technology and operating model, to offer a full digital experience in addition to face to face, phone and chat services.

This multi-year program will launch a new website and digital banking platforms, supported by industry-leading tools for:

  • Customer relationship management.
  • Loan origination.
  • Providing members and staff with a first-class banking experience.

To support the transformation, CDRU came onboard to identify and analyse gaps in People’s Choice services and operating model.

 

Approach

To begin, CDRU’s team of Strategic Sourcing, Architecture, Design and Commercial experts benchmarked data from daily market sourcing activities, at a granular level, using Australian benchmark data to create value-for-money outcomes with many technology services.

Typically, value-for-money assessments are found in:

  • End User Compute/Modern Desktops
  • Telecommunications
  • Application modernisation
  • Core Compute
  • Hybrid Cloud Services

Combining this data enabled the CDRU consultants to make highly informed recommendations to People’s Choice.

1. IT Service Tower – Baseline and Benchmarking

CDRU’s review involved:

  • Baselining the current People’s Choice spend profile, including a deeper review of the top 10 suppliers
  • Benchmarking across selected IT Service Towers
  • Reviewing the current inflight IT projects supporting digital transformation

CDRU were selected as the strategic sourcing partner of choice because of their industry and market experience. With a proven capability to reduce IT costs across multiple IT Service Towers.

The Benefits and Results

The analysis and categorisation of People’s Choice spend in the Service Towers provided a foundation to continue cost optimisation and enhanced ongoing vendor management.

It also paved the way for CDRU to formulate the Sourcing Roadmap for the services within the IT Service Towers and provided transparency of scale for future savings as well as the timeline for cost realisation.

Baseline cost savings were identified within 12 weeks and helped partially fund and support the implementation of several strategic transformation projects.

2. Sourcing Advisory Role

With People’s Choice well into the transformation journey, including Cloud adoption, CDRU were engaged as a buy-side sourcing advisor across several IT Service Towers to identify and transition new suppliers.

The key focus areas for CDRU in this advisory sourcing role cover Assessment and Option Analysis, Market Briefing Documentation, Proposal Evaluations and Supplier Down Select, and Iterative Proposal Development.

Benefits and Results

In executing the Sourcing Roadmap, CDRU are assisting on an ongoing basis with sourcing new 3-year services contracts across several IT service towers.

Current engagement includes Legacy Environment BAU managed services, Salesforce Managed Services and MuleSoft Managed Services.

3. Microsoft Agreements

CDRU identified the need to optimise their Microsoft Agreements to align with the transformation strategy, whilst importantly, only paying for those Microsoft services used.

CDRU partnered to advise on an alternative, innovative approach to the execution of new Microsoft Arrangements. This provided greater flexibility, allowed better alignment with projected cloud adoption over the coming period and enabled significant savings.
